Here's what we were working with - overgrown weeds choking out the entire area under and around a raised deck, poor drainage causing water to pool against the foundation, and a backyard that had basically become one big maintenance headache. Spots like this tend to get ignored because they're tucked away, but bad drainage in areas like this can quietly cause real problems over time.

We started with a regrade to get the ground sloping away from the house the way it should. That's the part most people don't see, but it's the most important step. Water sitting against a foundation wall is never a good thing, and fixing the grade is how you stop it from happening every time it rains.

Once the ground was properly shaped, we cleared everything out and installed rock throughout the under-deck area and along the perimeter. Rock is one of the best low-maintenance solutions for spots like this - no mowing, no weeding every few weeks, and it actually helps with drainage instead of fighting against it. It keeps the area clean without asking anything of you going forward.

The difference in the overall look of the back of the house is significant. What was a tangled, soggy mess is now a clean, defined space with good drainage built right into it. That's the goal with every landscaping job we do - solve the actual problem, not just make it look okay for a season.

We're still taking on landscaping projects, so if you've got a problem area around your home that needs some attention - drainage issues, overgrown spaces, or somewhere you just want to stop fighting with - give Dakota Turf a call.
